The Entry Points to Secure First (In Order)

Homeowner guide   Practical, plain-English steps

Not all doors and windows are equal risk. Here's the order that actually matters for most homes.

Your front door is #1, every time

Front doors are the most common entry point for break-ins by a wide margin, largely because they're the fastest, most direct access — and a visible camera here deters a large share of attempts on its own.

Back doors are next, especially unseen ones

A back door hidden from the street or neighbors gets far less deterrence from visibility alone, so a sensor plus camera combination matters more here.

Ground-floor windows, especially side-facing ones

Windows facing a side yard or alley are common secondary targets — sensors here catch what a doorbell camera alone would miss.

Don't forget the garage

An attached garage with an interior door to the house is a frequently overlooked entry point — secure the garage door itself, not just the house door behind it.

Build it up in this order

Doorbell camera first, then door/window sensors on hidden entries, then outdoor cameras for blind spots, then consider professional monitoring once core coverage is in place.
